Higher Heights releases one-of-a-kind #BlackWomenRun database detailing hundreds of Black women candidates running at the federal, state, and local level this fall
BROOKLYN, NY (October 10, 2022) – Today, Higher Heights for America, the leading national organization exclusively dedicated to advancing Black women’s political power, released a searchable, online #BlackWomenRun database detailing the more than 500 Black women candidates who are running for office in the general election at the local, state, and federal levels in the 2022 midterms. With just four weeks to go until the general election, this one-of-a-kind resource aims to be a critical resource for voters seeking information about Black women running in their communities.
“This year, a historic number of Black women are running for elected office in the general election and it has been truly inspiring to see them step up and give their communities a voice,” said Glynda Carr, President & CEO of Higher Heights. “Our hope is that this database provides voters with the resources they need to go to the polls this fall and make an informed decision on who they will vote for. When Black women win elections, they get things done for their constituents, and we look forward to seeing what these candidates will do in the future.”
Black women are showing up in record numbers on ballots across the country this year and this unique, searchable database will serve as a resource for voters, supporters, and other interested individuals who want to learn more about the Black women running in this year’s general election and find ways to support them leading up to Election Day.
This tool is an extension of a concept developed by author and strategist Luvvie Ajayi that was launched after Black women voters overwhelmingly helped successfully elect then-Senator Doug Jones in Alabama’s 2018 special election. The database offers a comprehensive overview of Black women candidates who are running for office this year. To keep the resource updated, users are invited to submit information about candidates directly to the database for consideration.
