Statement from Higher Heights as Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the first Black woman Democratic nominee for President of the United States

NEW YORK (August 22, 2024)—Tonight, we made history. The historical and cultural significance of Kamala Harris’s nomination cannot be overstated. Her presidency would not only represent a monumental step forward for Black women and women of color but also signify a broader commitment to embracing diversity and fostering inclusive leadership at the highest levels of government.

On November 6, 2019, Higher Heights for America PAC endorsed Kamala Harris almost 50 years after Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm became the first woman and the first African American to seek the Democratic Party presidential nomination and tonight we still know what we knew then, Kamala will be the 47th President of the United States.
