Sherry Dorsey Walker, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives from the 3rd District in 2018, becoming the first person of color to hold this position. Previously, she was the first woman and person of color elected to the Wilmington City Council in the 6th District in 2012. She holds a Master’s degree in Film from Howard University and a Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism from the University of Delaware.
In 2001, Sherry founded SWAP Productions LLC, an independent film production company. She created “Justice For All: The Documentary,” which highlighted issues in the juvenile justice system and influenced federal legislative changes after being presented to the Congressional Black Caucus.
Sherry serves on several House committees, including the Sunset Committee, Agriculture, Economic Development, Revenue and Finance, Judiciary, Transportation/Land Use, and Veterans. She is a former Vice Chair of the Delaware Legislative Black Caucus, which she helped establish in 2019. She sponsored SB 191 and SB 31 to add people of color as a protected class in the Delaware State Constitution.
As a City Councilwoman, Sherry worked to build relationships among businesses, government, and schools, and created programs like the “Above The Rim Basketball League” and a crime-fighting initiative with solar-powered lights.
